Makurdi, Nigeria – April 26, 2028
In a swift and decisive response to the tragic killings in Benue State, the Federal Government of Nigeria has made a major breakthrough with the arrest of the militia group responsible for the recent wave of violence. This action was the first significant step ordered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through his National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who visited Benue State just a week ago.
The killings, attributed to armed Fulani herdsmen, had left communities in Benue grieving and in fear. However, following the visit by Ribadu and the urgent directives from the Presidency, security operatives quickly mobilized and successfully apprehended key members of the militia believed to have orchestrated the attacks.
The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has publicly commended President Tinubu for his prompt and empathetic intervention. Speaking during a press briefing at the Government House in Makurdi, Governor Alia said, “The President has truly responded to the tears of our people. His actions have brought a sense of hope and justice to our communities.”
Governor Alia also praised the leadership of Nuhu Ribadu, noting that the NSA’s visit and immediate coordination with security agencies proved critical to the success of the operation. “Nuhu Ribadu’s swift visit reassured us, and the subsequent arrest of the perpetrators is a clear indication that our cries did not fall on deaf ears,” he added.
As investigations continue, the people of Benue State are hopeful that this action marks the beginning of a sustained effort to restore peace and security in the region. Security forces have assured the public of their continued commitment to hunting down any remaining elements threatening the peace of the state.
The Federal Government has reiterated its stance that violence of any kind will not be tolerated and has pledged to ensure that justice is served for the victims and their families.
