Former NRL Centre Charged Again as Off-Field Troubles Continue

Former NRL player Curtis Scott has once again found himself before the courts, with police laying multiple charges against the ex-Melbourne Storm and Canberra Raiders centre over an alleged incident that occurred nearly six months ago in Sydney.

Scott, 25, has been charged with driving under the influence, mid-range drink driving and negligent driving following an alleged crash in the southern Sydney suburb of Bonnet Bay on June 15. Police allege Scott lost control of his ute, crashing into several trees before fleeing the scene. He is scheduled to appear at Sutherland Local Court in January to answer the charges.

The latest development adds to a long list of off-field controversies that have overshadowed what was once a promising rugby league career. Scott played 72 NRL games between 2016 and 2021, initially making his name with Melbourne Storm before later stints with the Canberra Raiders. Despite showing strong potential at first grade level, his time in the NRL was ultimately cut short amid repeated disciplinary and legal issues.

Scott’s legal troubles date back several years. In 2020, he was arrested near the Sydney Cricket Ground and charged with six offences, including two counts of assaulting a police officer. In 2022, he was convicted of domestic violence offences against a former partner, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault, and stalking or intimidation with intent to cause fear of physical harm. He was also charged in 2023 with driving while his licence was suspended, to which he pleaded guilty but avoided conviction.

After his NRL career ended, Scott turned his attention to boxing, attempting to rebuild his public profile outside rugby league. However, the fresh charges mark another setback in a turbulent post-playing career, reinforcing the ongoing challenges that have followed the former NRL bad boy since his exit from the game.
