Bulldogs Make Their Move: Tracey Deal Now in His Hands

The Canterbury Bulldogs have taken a decisive step toward securing the future of one of their standout performers, with a formal contract offer submitted to fullback Connor Tracey as the club looks to fend off growing external interest.

Bulldogs General Manager Phil Gould confirmed that negotiations with Tracey have been ongoing for several months, emphasizing that the club has always been intent on retaining the in-form back. The official offer, sent late last week, now leaves the decision in the player’s hands.

“We’ve been in discussions for some time, and there was never any doubt about wanting him to stay,” Gould explained. “The offer has now been sent, and we expect a response soon.”

The development follows recent reports that surfaced after a club meeting, further fueling speculation around Tracey’s future. Despite links to the incoming Perth Bears franchise ahead of their 2027 entry into the competition, the Bulldogs remain confident of keeping the 28-year-old at Belmore.

Head coach Cameron Ciraldo echoed Gould’s sentiments, highlighting Tracey’s importance beyond just his on-field contributions. He praised the fullback’s consistent improvement and commitment, describing him as a highly valued yet often underrated member of the squad.

“He’s worked extremely hard on all aspects of his game,” Ciraldo said. “He might not always get the recognition he deserves, but internally, we know how important he is to this team.”

Tracey has been instrumental in the Bulldogs’ strong start to the 2026 NRL season, delivering key attacking plays and crucial defensive interventions across the opening rounds. His performances have played a significant role in positioning the club among the early contenders on the ladder.

With rival interest mounting and Tracey’s value continuing to rise, the Bulldogs are eager to finalize an agreement swiftly and maintain stability within their squad as the season progresses.
