Daizen Maeda Extends Celtic Stay Amidst International Interest

Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce that Japanese forward Daizen Maeda has signed a new four-year contract, extending his commitment to the club until June 2027.

Since joining from Yokohama F Marinos in January 2022, Maeda has become an integral part of the Celtic squad, making 81 appearances and scoring 19 goals. His contributions have been pivotal in securing multiple titles, including two Scottish Premierships and a Treble in the 2022-2023 season.

Manager Brendan Rodgers praised Maeda’s high-intensity, attack-minded play and exceptional work rate, stating, “Daizen’s attributes make him a really exciting player and I am looking forward to working with him.

This contract extension comes amid growing interest from international clubs, including those in Saudi Arabia, as well as Spanish sides Sevilla and Aston Villa. Rodgers acknowledged the likelihood of such interest, given Maeda’s impressive performances, particularly in the Champions League, but expressed his satisfaction in securing the forward’s future at Celtic.

Maeda expressed his happiness with the new deal, saying, “Celtic is a special club so I’m very pleased to extend my stay here. ” He also highlighted his ambition to continue contributing to the team’s success, stating, “We have three trophies to defend, and we also have Champions League football, so I am excited to get started.
