Manly Sea Eagles’ search for a new head coach has quickly turned into a compelling storyline, with Leeds Rhinos boss Brad Arthur gaining strong backing from one of the NRL’s most influential voices.
Parramatta Eels star Mitchell Moses has publicly endorsed his former coach as the ideal figure to revive the struggling club following the dismissal of Anthony Seibold.
The Sea Eagles parted ways with Seibold after a disappointing start to the season, losing their opening three matches. However, a dramatic turnaround under interim coach Kieran Foran — highlighted by a commanding 52–18 victory over the Dolphins — has temporarily steadied the ship while the club evaluates long-term options.
Arthur’s name has surged to the forefront not just because of his availability, but due to his extensive NRL pedigree. Before taking charge at Leeds in 2024, he oversaw 264 games with Parramatta, guiding them to the 2022 Grand Final. His coaching journey also includes earlier ties to Manly as an assistant, strengthening the narrative of a potential return.
Currently, Arthur is making a significant impact in England. His Leeds Rhinos side recently climbed to the top of the Super League table after a 24–12 victory over the Bradford Bulls — a result that underlines his ability to quickly transform teams. This resurgence follows near-misses for other high-profile roles, including opportunities with the Perth Bears and PNG Chiefs, both of which ultimately went elsewhere.
Moses, who developed under Arthur at Parramatta and credits him for both professional and personal growth, believes his former mentor possesses exactly what Manly needs. He emphasized Arthur’s structured approach, attention to detail, and ability to elevate players beyond just attacking play.
According to Moses, Arthur’s influence extends far beyond tactics. He highlighted how the coach instilled discipline, composure, and game management skills — qualities he believes would address key deficiencies in Manly’s current setup. While the Sea Eagles have shown they can score points, Moses pointed out that refining the “little things” around performance is where Arthur could make the biggest difference.
Despite the growing speculation, Arthur has remained firm in his public stance. Addressing the rumors during a recent press conference, he reiterated that his full focus remains on Leeds Rhinos and declined to engage in discussions about a possible NRL return.
For now, Manly’s leadership decision remains unresolved. But with a proven track record, strong player endorsement, and current success abroad, Brad Arthur has firmly positioned himself as a leading contender to take on one of the NRL’s most challenging rebuilds.
