Son of NBA Legend Commits to Ohio State

Justin Pippen, the son of Scottie Pippen, is set to continue his collegiate basketball career with the Ohio State Buckeyes men’s basketball after announcing his transfer from California Golden Bears men’s basketball.

The 6-foot-3 guard arrives in Columbus following a strong season at California, where he emerged as a key contributor. Pippen averaged 14.2 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game, earning honorable mention recognition on the All-ACC postseason ballot. His performances helped guide the Golden Bears to a 21–11 overall record and a balanced 9–9 mark in conference play, although the team narrowly missed out on an NCAA Tournament berth.

Pippen’s journey has been one of steady progression. He initially began his college career at Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball as a four-star recruit in the 2024 class. However, limited playing time during his freshman season—where he averaged just 1.6 points per game—prompted a transfer to California. There, he flourished with increased responsibility, starting all 32 games and showcasing his development as a playmaker and scorer.

His move to Ohio State comes at a pivotal moment for the program under head coach Jake Diebler. Entering his third season, Diebler is looking to build on recent progress after leading the Buckeyes back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2022. Despite that achievement, Ohio State’s campaign ended in a first-round exit against TCU Horned Frogs men’s basketball, highlighting the need for experienced reinforcements.

Pippen’s arrival addresses that need directly. With his scoring ability, court vision, and high-level experience, he is expected to play a significant role in strengthening Ohio State’s backcourt as the team aims to take the next step in national competition.

Beyond his on-court contributions, Pippen also carries a notable basketball legacy. His father, Scottie Pippen, was a central figure in the Chicago Bulls dynasty of the 1990s alongside Michael Jordan, winning six NBA championships. Now, Justin looks to carve out his own path, with Ohio State offering the latest stage in his evolving career.

As roster changes continue across college basketball, Pippen’s transfer stands out as one of the more intriguing moves of the offseason—one that could significantly impact the Buckeyes’ ambitions in the upcoming campaign.
