Daly Cherry-Evans has opened up on the backlash he has faced from sections of Manly Sea Eagles supporters since joining the Sydney Roosters, admitting he is deeply disappointed by the treatment he has received from fans of his former club.
The 36-year-old veteran revealed that some supporters have acted as though he betrayed the Sea Eagles by making the switch, despite the years of service he gave to the club during his time in Manly colours.
Cherry-Evans insisted he has no regrets over his departure, explaining that circumstances surrounding the move ultimately led him to make the decision to continue his career elsewhere.
While acknowledging the criticism, the experienced halfback stressed that Manly still holds a special place in his heart and that his connection to the club remains strong despite the hostile reception from parts of the fanbase.
He also lamented what he described as disrespectful treatment from supporters both online and in person, arguing that his commitment and efforts for the club over the years should warrant greater appreciation.
“I gave everything I had for that club when I was there,” Cherry-Evans said, reiterating that while fans are entitled to their opinions, he believes his contribution deserves respect.
When asked for his thoughts on Manly’s season so far, the Roosters playmaker declined to delve into analysis of his former side’s campaign, saying his full focus remains on his own career and helping Sydney succeed.
Cherry-Evans added that while his priorities now lie with the Roosters, he still wishes Manly well and hopes the club can find success moving forward.
His comments are likely to stir fresh debate among Sea Eagles supporters, with emotions still running high over the departure of one of the club’s most recognisable modern-era figures.
