Former Auburn star wide receiver Cam Coleman has spoken publicly for the first time about his decision to leave the Tigers, insisting the move away from the program was a straightforward one.
Coleman, widely regarded as Auburn’s most significant departure of the offseason, transferred to the University of Texas after entering the NCAA transfer portal, choosing to remain within the SEC.
Speaking to media on Wednesday, the talented receiver was asked how difficult it was to leave Auburn after two seasons with the program. His response suggested there was little hesitation behind the decision.
“It wasn’t hard,” Coleman said. “Because sometimes you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do. It wasn’t really that hard.”
Coleman’s departure marks the end of a notable spell at Auburn, where he established himself as one of the Tigers’ standout offensive weapons despite many observers believing he was never fully utilized to his potential.
The wideout posted strong numbers during his time on The Plains, recording 93 receptions for 1,306 yards and 13 touchdowns across two seasons. In the 2025 campaign alone, he caught 56 passes for 708 yards and five touchdowns, underlining his importance to Auburn’s attack.
Following a major offseason coaching overhaul led by new head coach Golesh, Auburn reportedly made efforts to convince Coleman to remain with the program. However, the receiver ultimately opted for a fresh start elsewhere.
His exit is viewed as Auburn’s biggest personnel loss in a transfer window that saw more than 30 players leave the program.
The Tigers also lost several other key receivers from last season, though the coaching staff has attempted to rebuild that unit by bringing in five transfer receivers from South Florida.
Coleman now begins the next chapter of his collegiate career at Texas, while Auburn faces the challenge of replacing one of its most productive and explosive playmakers.
